A fair copy in original gilt-stamped brown cloth. Elliot, Secretary of the Light-House Board, traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland, France, and Austria to gain information on European advances in illuminants, lenses, and fog warnings. Plates show state-of-the-art lighthouse technology in 1873, including engraved perspectives of lighthouses, details of gas and electric illumination systems, lightships, and lenses. Item #010753
