This, his first book, "...documents his major commissions...and contains the best surviving evidence of his technical skill in site engineering as well as his taste in landscape design" ("Pioneers of American Landscape Design") Forty pages of illustrated text discussing technique are followed by twenty-four illustrated plans of work in Hartford and the Northeast. First edition. Folio (35 x 27 cm); 40 pp.; 84 text cuts and 24 colored lithographic plates. Rubbing and wear to backstrip and extremities; bookplate and owner’s ink stamp to front pastedown; plates bright and clean. A good copy in original gilt-stamped maroon publisher’s cloth.
